Review: To The Moon

Wow! I can't believe that I'm writing here again. It's like... the first time in 6 months! I hope that this blog of mine is not yet left in the attic, in the dust. Anyways, I welcome back myself on this blog of mine. I don't know what really happened that made me absent for a long time. but yeah, here I am again, and I will try to become active in here too. And also, I am thinking of changing my blog name. It's because I thought that the future contents (such as game reviews, and updates to my writing stuff) will not live up to the name. So yeah... guess that for my intro here. Now, onto the main business here.

Also, be warned. This review might contain some spoilers so, if you have read this far and haven't played the game or watch any Let's plays of the title, then I'm going to ask you, kindly, that you must leave at once.

---------------------------------------------------------
To The Moon. An indie game that is made by Freebird Games that I originally discovered from PewDiePie. I watched the first part, then didn't continue to watch it since I want to uncover the story by playing it myself. I didn't add it onto my wishlist until I discovered the bundled release of the game, with its 2 Minisodes and the original soundtrack. Then here, a friend of mine asking what me, and my other friend want from Steam and he will get it for us as a Christmas present (and also, taking advantage of the Steam sales at the time). I said that he get me this game, with its bundle, then I'm good. And guess what, I'm going for a right decision this time. It is a story of Johnny, a dying patient, his memories being uncovered by two doctors, and his wish of going to the moon.

Story. On a serious note, I am so mixed with too many emotions here as I uncover the story of the game. It's really a roller coaster of feelings. You'll laugh at this part, tear up at this part (Yeah, seriously. I'm going to warn you that have some tissues ready, or handkerchief, or towel, or anything that will help you wipe the tears in your eye. Don't make an excuse for having dusts in your eyes, unless you're playing it in the middle of the desert), and get confused at that part. Also, what I also love about this is that it contains too many plot twists. The characters are too easily to be loved. Dr. Watts and his "amazing" style that could consider him also a village idiot; Dr. Eva, the most serious one and the one that makes Dr. Watts "kill all the joy"; and the couple: Johnny and River, with their love story that the players will fall in love with. Overall, the story is so sweet and good that makes the players shed a single tear in the game.

Gameplay. The game is rather simple for it's storytelling, but I find it perfect for the storytelling. Nothing else to be told about the gameplay since the game is more on storytelling rather than playing the game itself. Let's make it short: an interactive novel. That's all. Also, I love the references made in this game.

Music. Let me sum all up in seven words: Oh. My. God. This. Is. So. Beautiful. And yes, I meant it. I exaggerated it because Goddamn, it is really true that the soundtrack of the game is truly beautiful. And yes. The soundtrack made me tear up so badly just by listening it. Most notable titles are: For River, it has 2 versions, one is played by Sarah and Tommy, and the other is played by Johnny, and yes, I recommend both versions; To The Moon - Main Theme, oh who would not get goosebumps as this one greets you when it introduces you to the title screen; and last, and definitely not least, Trailer Theme Part 2 (feat. Laura Shigihara), oh who wouldn't tear up when this one played in the trailer? Matching with Laura Shigihara's (To those who doesn't know her, she is famously known for singing and composing the ending song for Plants vs. Zombies, also composing the music and sounds of the said game) soothing and relaxing voice on the said song. Oh man. THE FEELS ARE SO GODDAMN REAL! Overall, I think this part doesn't need an overall. I mean... I've explained it. All of it. And it's up to other players if my verdict on this so wrong. And all that I could say is... Heavenly. Shout out to Kan Gao's and Laura Shigihara's beautiful collaboration for the soundtrack of this game. It is so heavenly, as what I have said before. Another thing is that you could own a copy of the OSTs if you bought the bundle on Steam.

SCORE:
Story: 10/10
Gameplay: 10/10
Music: 10/10

Overall: 10/10

No bias here. Because this game, It is perfect in its own way.

Is it recommendable? I think you know my answer. It's yes. Most recommendable for those players who wanted some story rich and extraordinary adventure. it is recommendable for those who wants a game that has beautiful OSTs on it.

This concludes my review about To the Moon.

To end the review, here's a quote from River which I find it so relatable since we like the stars in the sky:

TUN out.
